If you have often wondered, as I have, what is in organic coffee, you have come to the right place.

Coffee is a drink that is enjoyed by countless millions of people every day across the globe. The amount of business and revenues that coffee generates is mind boggling.

What is in organic coffee is an important question. Perhaps an even more important question is, what is not in organic coffee. I will explore both, what is in organic coffee, and what is not in organic coffee.

By doing so, I hope to reveal the importance of knowing the ingredients in your morning Joe. In other words, to ask what is organic coffee, we have to find out what actually makes coffee organic.

I will also reveal the negative aspects of drinking coffee, as well as the positive aspects of drinking coffee, as it relates to your health. I think you may be surprised what I have discovered about how drinking java affects your health and longevity.

What is Organic Coffee?

Organic coffee is free from contaminants found in regular coffee.

Organic coffee is, according to the USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, coffee that utilizes sustainable agricultural techniques in it’s growth processes.

These growth methods include the conservation of water, and soil, to sustain the environmental quality for generations to come.

Organic coffee is lacking some 150 ingredients considered impure that regular coffee may include.

Organic coffee is produced without using synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, ionizing radiation, sewage sludge, or bio engineering such as GMO, genetic modification.

Specific procedures and processes are used for organic coffee.  Organic coffee is packaged, and shipped apart from regular coffee.  In order to earn the USDA Certified label, organic coffee is directly certified by, and under the auspices of the USDA.

The USDA has representatives throughout the world. In order to be sold in the US as organic, foreign coffee growers have to achieve the USDA organic label. These strict standard ensure that these coffees are reliably organic.

A USDA certified inspector inspects the farms where the coffee is grown to be sure the farmer/grower is following all of the requirements and standards needed before the product can have the organic designation.

Any companies that process, and/or handle the organic coffee before it is delivered to your favorite store or restaurant must also be certified by the USDA.

The vast majority of the consumed coffee in North America (Canada, and the US) is not grown in North America.  The only state in the U.S. where coffee is grown in significant quantities is Hawaii.

Hawaii’s ideal climate, and rich, fertile volcanic soil provide near perfect conditions to produce some of the best coffees on earth.

These strict processes that are used to produce organic coffee ensure that the smell and taste will exceed that of regular coffee that contain many impurities.

Healthy organic coffee is also picked at the optimum time, using only the best varieties, and with great care used in processing.

Many countries also accept the Bio Latina certification of organic coffee.

Toxic chemicals are not found in organic coffee.

What is not in organic coffee, or put another way, what is in regular coffee? There are often as many as 150 or more impurities in non organic or regular coffee.

These impurities may include pesticides, herbicides, chemicals, coloring agents, microorganisms, viruses, colloidal particles, suspended particles, dissolved gases, pyrogens, dissolved organic compounds, and dissolved inorganic ions.

In addition toxins such as mycotoxins which are present in molds on the coffee bean, can be present. Another toxin called ochratoxin, which can cause human neuron cells to degenerate, and die are often found in dry processed coffees.

Neurons are found in the brain, and nervous system.  Toxic metals such as zinc, mercury, beryllium, and aluminum have also been identified.

Other chemical contaminants such as furon, acrylamide, and PAH’s have been found in food processed coffee. As many as 1000 different chemicals, most having deleterious effects, have been identified in regular coffee.

How Healthy is Coffee?

Drinking organic coffee can be quite healthy.

Despite all of the negatives of drinking regular coffee, there are many positives, especially with organic coffee. Some of the positive aspects of drinking organic coffee are:

1. An easing of the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease based on drinking 2 to 4 cups of coffee per day.

2. Rich anti-oxidant content. Roasted coffee surprisingly provides more of these benefits than raw coffee.

3. Good for the liver. Coffee drinking provides some benefits for the liver, yet coffee enemas can detox the liver.

4. Colon cancer prevention. Drinking one or two cups per day has proven to reduce the risk of colon cancer by half or 50%.

5. Alzheimers disease prevention.  A 65% less chance of developing Alzheimers disease later in life by drinking 3 to 5 cups  of coffee per day in mid life, was the result of a recent study.

6.  Adult Onset or Type 2 diabetes prevention has been discovered due to coffee’s significant anti-oxidant content, especially the anti-oxidant chlorogenic acid.

7.  Inflammation reduction. Polyphenols, another potent anti-oxidant found in coffee, can help lower inflammation in the body.

8.  Relief for Migraine headaches. The caffeine in coffee, often considered a negative, can help relieve the symptoms of             migraine headaches. This is due to caffeine’s ability to limit blood flow to the brain by constricting blood vessels.

9.  Lower risk of Asthma attacks. Relief for asthma sufferers is realized as a result of the broncho-dilator effect that drinking       coffee has on airways.

 

How Unhealthy is Coffee?

Regular coffee can be an unhealthy drink.

Some of the negatives of drinking regular coffee are:

1. Coffee punishes the Adrenal glands. The caffeine in coffee stimulates, and often over stimulates the adrenal glands,         which are our energy glands. This over stimulation or flogging of the adrenals can actually cause us to be more tired, and        have less energy over time with the continual drinking of coffee.  In addition, the resulting low levels of adrenaline can cause and/or increase anxiety in some people.

2. Causes a cancerous environment in the body. Regular, heavy coffee drinking can create a carcinogenic atmosphere, and        present a risk of the development of certain cancers. Hot coffee creates acrylamide, an agent that is known to cause                cancer.

3. Coffee is a diuretic. Drinking coffee can drain the body of much needed water, which can be problematic if these lower            hydration levels are not replenished.

4. Raises blood pressure levels. Drinking large amounts of coffee can increase blood pressure due to coffee’s caffeine              content.

5. Causes insomnia. Drinking caffeinated coffee late in the day can often make it difficult, if not impossible to go off to sleep.

6. Can worsen kidney issues. Those with kidney disease can experience an intensification due to the potassium content            that is present in coffee.

Organic coffee is high in anti-oxidants, and helps many health conditions.

Organic coffee is, according to the USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, coffee that utilizes sustainable agricultural practices in it’s growth processes. These growth methods include the conservation of water, and soil, to sustain the environmental quality for generations to come.

Organic coffee contains primarily healthy ingredients. Organic coffee does not contain most of the unhealthy ingredients, and contaminants that are found in many regular coffees.

Roasted coffee is higher in anti-oxidants than raw coffee and can help prevent or improve many health conditions such as Alzheimers, Type ll diabetes, Asthma, and Parkinson’s disease.  The caffeine in coffee can actually benefit those suffering from migraine headaches.

The contaminants found in regular coffee include many chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, coloring agents, microorganisms, viruses, colloidal particles, suspended particles, dissolved gases, pyrogens, dissolved organic compounds, and dissolved inorganic ions.

In addition, many toxins are found in coffee including molds like mycotoxins. The negative aspects of drinking regular coffee can be quite numerous.

Caffeinated coffee is a diuretic, can flog the adrenals, raise blood pressure, and create a carcinogenic atmosphere in the body.

  1. I’ve been into organics for many years so your post topic connected deeply.
    I liked the way you explained what makes ‘Organic Coffee’ organic. That it was grown sustainability, used water conservatively, and was picked at optimal times.
    Then you let me know that Non Organic Coffee used: synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, ionizing radiation, sewage sludge and GMO (genetic modification).
    I’m wondering if any level of the nerve toxin called ‘ochratoxin’ has been linked to increases in Alzheimer and Dementia?
    I found your list of 9 ways coffee is healthful, and 6 ways coffee can be harmful enlightening.
    I have 2-3 organic black coffees per day – What have you found to be a moderate daily amount?

Ochratoxin is similar to the excitotoxin aspartame in that it can excite nerve, and brain cells to death. I have 1 to 2 large cups of coffee with very light cream 6 days a week.
