Natural antivirals may help protect you from dangerous viruses.

Natural Antivirals

Hearing the phrase, natural anitvirals may elicit different responses from different people. When I say antiviral, I don’t mean in the online/computer definition which means a program designed to hack and destroy the files of unsuspecting laptop, pc, and iphone users.

But rather, I am referring to the offline, health world where viruses can cause damage to our physical, and mental states of well being.

Whether you think this current  Corona virus is man made, or if you believe it is the result of being exposed to a diseased bat, or if you think it occured on it’s own, it is still a very real, worldwide health threat.

Personally, I am keeping my mind open as to it’s cause, and to what the extent of it’s danger may be. I defer to the likes of the brilliant Dr. Ben Carson, who has said on more than one occasion that we should not overreact, and panic regarding the COVID-19.

With everything happening today with the Corona virus, and the myriad of other threats to our good health, I thought it a good idea to present some natural antiviral herbs, oils, and other like alternatives to drugs, and other main stream medical so-called remedies to address this virus, as well as other viruses.

Many of these natural alternatives can be more effective than drugs, work more quickly, address the underlying cause, and in almost every case, will have none of the negative side-effects that prescription drugs, vaccines, and other main stream medical methodologies may have.

I will describe what a virus is. I will also present to you several of what I consider to be the best natural anti viral herbs available. I will explain what they are, how they work, and where you can get them.

What is a Virus?

Natural antivirals
Viruses are a complex grouping of organic matter that is not considered physically alive.

The first human virus was discovered in 1901 by Walter Reed. Perhaps you have heard of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, DC, one of the world’s most famous.

So, what exactly is a virus, how does it come about, and how does it work?  Viruses are all around us.  We ingest viruses through our nose, mouth, and even through our ears.  Viruses are very small. They can not be seen with the naked eye.

Viruses are a complex grouping of organic matter that is not considered physically alive that has the ability to replicate itself.

Viruses consist of an outer shell that is made of protein, and this shell contains DNA, deoxyriboncleic acid, or RNA, ribonucleic acid with enzymes that facilitate duplication of these genetic materials.

In order to duplicate itself however, a virus needs the help of a healthy cell.  A cell is the perfect host for a virus. The virus infects the healthy cell, and converts the cell into virus producing machine.  The virus uses it’s outer receptors to adhere to the exterior of a cell.

The virus then forces the cell to accept it’s genetic material or to absorb the entire virus.  Once this happens, the virus will overtake the cell’s protein manufacturing processes, and it’s DNA replicating mechanism.  The virus DNA then becomes the cell’s DNA, and begins to clone itself, and a rapid viral replication process begins.

There are many antiviral herbs, and plants.

Before buying any supplement, it is very important to be sure that it is a live source supplement. A live source supplement has the ability to communicate with the cell via a body of light, which enables it to be absorbed and used by the cell.

It is also very important that the supplement you choose is 100% organic, non GMO, with no toxic tagalongs, or other non-natural ingredients that can compromise it’s effectiveness and/or present more potential health issues down the road.

A recent study determined that 97.5% of the supplements on the market today are either not effective or toxic, or both. The only supplements that I recommend are live source, organic, and free of toxic tagalongs, and chemicals.

In addition, due to over farming, and the continual use of chemicals in the soil, pesticides, and herbicides, the nutrient content of our foods has been vastly depleted.  If that wasn’t enough, we are now at risk of developing sicknesses, and diseases from our food.

This is due to the high amount of this chemical and pesticide/herbicide residue both on the plants, as well as in the plant that has been absorbed through the soil. The bottom line is that much of the food we are subjected to today may well be doing us more harm than good.

Natural Antiviral Herbs

Natural antiviral herbs work with the body, and have none of the side effects that drugs have.  In addition these herbs may help several health conditions at one time by effecting the source of the issue, whereas drugs are normally designed to treat the symptoms, and not necessarily the underlying cause.

Oregano  More specifically, Wild Oregano(not the oregano on your spice rack), has shown very significant anti-viral activity. Most commonly utilized as an oil called carvacrol oil, or oil of carvacrol.

The essential oil of oregano is derived from the flowers and leaves of the true oregano species, the Oreganum vulgare.  Oreganum vulgare is a member of the mint family lamiaceae, which is native to Western and Southwestern Eurasia and the Mediterranean region, and a perennial herb.

The plant grows up to 3 feet high, with dark green leaves and a majestic purple flower.  It can take up to 100lbs of oregano plants to make 1lb of the essential oil of wild oregano.

The oil of oregano is high in phenolic compounds such as carvacrol, making this concentrated natural oil very powerful.

A superb immune boosting agent, oregano oil has been shown to exhibit profound anti-viral activity against many viruses.  Also has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant properties.

Garlic (not kitchen garlic) has strong antiviral properties.

Garlic  The active ingredient in garlic(not kitchen garlic) is the organosulphur compound allicin that naturally occurs in garlic.  In addition, garlic features the naturally occuring compounds, alliin, and S-allyl cysteine.

When raw garlic cloves are chewed, chopped, or crushed, an enzyme known as allinase is released.  Allinase catalyzes the formation of sulfenic acids from cysteine sulfoxides. Sulfenic acids spontaneously react with each other to form unstable compounds called thiosulfinates.

In the case of allin, the resulting sulfenic acids react with each other to form a thiosulfinate known as allicin. This is what gives garlic extract with its high allicin content its immunomodulating properties, and it’s broad spectrum immune support.

As a result, garlic is known to be a highly significant immune support agent when it contains a high allicin content.
Garlic has shown significant anti-viral activity against various viruses, supports cardiovascular health, and is a profound immune support agent.

  1. I appreciate articles like this. So many get caught up with “natural” supplements and spend a lot of money instead of just buying the foods or herbs instead.
I have always been a big proponent of garlic for health. Besides being easy to cook with garlic is great for keeping you from getting sick.
If I feel I’m a bout to get sick I’ll consume large amounts of garlic along with vitamin C. I might bot have the best breath after but I feel it helps quite a bit.

  3. Wow, such an educational and informative post. Most of the time, we always rush to the doctors and not considering the superfoods that most of the time is available in our kitchen. Now you teach us to start in the kitchens before thinking about medication and doctors. Thanks again for the post.

    1. Hi Lucky, Thank you for your comments, and your compliments. Yes, if we eat right, and take the right supplements, we can often circumvent the high doctor bills, and debilitating drugs they prescribe. To your health, Tom
